Stripchat Partners With Sexperts for Mental Health and Wellness Webinar Series

LOS ANGELES — Stripchat has partnered with the Sexual Health Alliance (SHA) to bring clinical psychologists, sex researchers and relationship therapists onto its live cam platform to answer questions about sex addiction and online infidelity.

According to the company, it partnered with the SHA to help cam users better understand the science behind cam and porn use. SHA Advisory Board member Dr. David Ley will appear on cam in the series’ first installment to discuss the latest research on the origins of sexual shame, online infidelity and sex addiction.

The initiative will kick off August 1 at 2 p.m. PDT, with an hourlong cam session on “Sex Addiction: Myths and Facts.” Users must log in to ask questions; however, a membership to Stripchat is not required to view the session.

“Webcam users have been left out of most research and therapy,” Dr. Ley revealed. “Non-shaming support and education are (virtually) nonexistent. This needs to change, and this is how it starts.”

A recent internal study by Stripchat, “On Sex, Cams and Anxiety: Vol 1,” revealed that 42 percent of cam fans have experienced some level of anxiety over the time spent watching cams, with 11 percent reporting frequent or constant anxiety. Married viewers exhibit more anxiety than single people, with 29 percent worrying that their cam use constituted cheating and 31 percent said it had caused conflicts in their relationship.

The company noted that numbers were significantly higher for married women and viewers who identified as very religious, but did not provide specific percentages.

“Cam users are passionate about cams, but the outside world [isn’t always accepting of this],” said Stripchat’s VP of New Media Max Bennet. “Cam fans are more likely than other adult fans to struggle with shame and anxiety about their desires. This is a chance for them to get past some myths and stigma around porn, and talk to an expert about what science actually says.”
